Pilot escapes injury during crash landing in North Lauderdale

Posted April 10 2004, 5:39 PM EDT

A pilot escaped injury when he was forced to land his small plane at Hampton Pines Park in North Lauderdale.

Here is what Broward Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jim Leljedal said about the crash landing:

Broward Sheriff’s Office North Lauderdale deputies were alerted to the emergency by several 911 calls phoned in by numerous witnesses who saw the small plane go down.

At about 10 a.m. pilot Jeffrey Ippoiti, 41, brought his single-engine Cirrus aircraft down at the park, located in the 7800 block of Hampton Boulevard. Ippoiti was not hurt, nor was anyone on the ground. The four-seat airplane sustained relatively minor damage.

BSO deputies secured the site until FAA officials arrived at about 1 p.m. to investigate the incident. The federal authorities will determine why the aircraft crash-landed and whether any further action is warranted. Email story
