Have read various posts pro/con Arnav…etc for months now, but there is one constant in all of them. Namely, there is not a lot of room on the Cirrus Panel for future upgrades.
My question for you long-time aviators is: Do you think this will be an issue down the line? I mean in 5 or ten years. Clearly, the plane as furnished is very capable by today’s standards. However, who knows what’s around the corner… For example, if one wants HITS with dual arnav screens there is no place to put the standby DG, AI…etc. Say as compared to the 1960’s Bonanza that AOPA is doing this year. (which I am planning to win)
I am not familiar with the mechanics behind the panel, and therefore don’t know how easy it would be to make major changes down the line.

don’t worry…you’ll be flying ‘the eclipse’ jet by then!

Since Cirrus announced availability of the Sandel EHSI in the SR20, I have been reading about from their web site (www.sandel.com). It is an HSI with a build in moving map and data base. The entire package fits in the panel opening of a conventional HSI (which fits in the opening of a conventional DG). I noticed that the STEC-30 enunciator provides the turn coordinator funcionality and replaces the instrument in the panel. Bottom line is that for most avionics manufacturers the bucks is for sales in existing planes so I would expect whatever new and improved equipment they come up with it will fit in existing panel slots. I would view Arnav as a temporary occupant of the panel until a better display comes along or the Arnav is worn out.

Panel space. I don’t think it is a problem. 1st. We don’t have to have the ARNAV, so there is lots of space there.
2nd. If you don’t want to remove the RNAV you can always use a HUD. I think we are luck to be here today 2001, this is a great time to be flying a Cirrus… What do you think?
Cheers,
