Fellow SR 22 GEN seveners,
I’m having a terrible time getting my Garmin avionics to upload from the “briefcase” SD card. On Jeppsen i’m able to download everything onto the SD card and
I’m following the manual Cirrus gave to us on the day that I picked it up. when I place the SD card in the upper right and turned the aircraft on, nothing! it does not want to automatically upload and we don’t seem to be able to be make it upload manually.
Could someone point me in the right direction? YouTube video or something?
Thank you
I assume “briefcase sd card” means that it is not a sd card removed from the panel and that it’s a brand new card. I had issues with mine initially but tried deleting everything on the card on my PC in a windows explorer window. Then reloaded everything from JDM to the empty card and it seemed to work. The card out of the panel I was able to update without clearing it.
I just did my first database update in my G7. One thing that was confusing to me (and different from other Garmin hardware I’ve flown with) is that you don’t need to do anything to actually start the update. It will start automatically if there’s data on the card. Have you gone to the Init page on GDC1 and tapped on the Database item there? That’s where you can monitor the progress, but it wasn’t obvious to me from those instructions that Cirrus provided me. If that isn’t working, try formatting the card, clearing the JDM app cache, and try again.
This is from the Perspective Touch+ Cockpit Reference Guide (note 1b states BOTTOM slot of MFD):
Updating databases using an SD card:
-
When using databases from an SD card: a) Download and install the databases on the SD card. b) Insert an SD card in the bottom slot of the MFD.
-
From MFW Home, touch Utilities > Initialization > Database Status. Or: From MFW Home, touch Utilities > Setup > Database Status.
-
Monitor the Sync Status on the ‘Database Status’ Screen. Wait for the databases to complete syncing, indicated by ‘Sync Complete’ being displayed briefly.
-
The database update status will appear in the status window at the top of the screen. Synchronization is complete when ‘Databases Ready’ is displayed in the progress window.
-
Databases selected to load will be indicated by a cyan single-arrow. For any new databases not selected to load with a cyan arrow (or if Inhibit Automatic Swap is selected), touch the arrow in the ‘Load’ Column next to the specific database. The arrow will change to cyan in color.
-
From MFW Home, touch Utilities > Setup > Database Status > Database Options > Restart Displays. Or: From MFW Home, touch Utilities > Initialization > Database Status > Database Options > Restart Displays.
-
Remove the SD card from the applicable display if desired.
-
Press the right most softkey on the MFD to acknowledge the power-on screen.
-
From MFW Home, touch Utilities > Initialization > Database Status. Or: From MFW Home, touch Utilities > Setup > Database Status.
-
Verify the standby databases transferred and are now in the ‘Active’ Column.
