Erik's flight

Flight is now in progress and can be tracked on http://www.xprize.org/education/lind_mission.html

Mike

Is this link, www.aeroplanner.com/lindbergh working for anyone? I can’t get it to work – perhaps the server is simply overwhelmed.

Worked for me! 8:05 pm CST

I clicked on the link in your post and got right to the site. Timing is everything.

If you get into the site, 1) check the fuel; just a little out of balance when I looked, 2) check the wing span given for the Lancair; a little short, and 3) check the price of the Lancair; probably a little short of what the plane on this flight cost.

Thanks, guys… it just worked for me, too.

Lou,

Don’t know about the wingspan; price does seem low. Fuel balance? If that’s real, I don’t understand it… 39% remaining in the left tank, right tank full, but perhaps replenished from the fuselage tank. Seems like the time to switch tanks.

Here’s how I know when it’s time to switch tanks

Maybe this has been covered before, but I may have had my eyes closed. Why was Lancair chosen instead of Cirrus or any other aircraft for that matter? Seems that ANY aircraft manufacturer would have JUMPED at the chance to sponsor or provide the aircraft for this trip to get some publicity. Anyone have info on this?

P.S. Mike I respect you and enjoy your posts, however if I would ever get the chance to fly with you I would make sure that the fuel gauges NEVER looked like that! (I know your just kidding.) Besides you have the trusty 430’s to keep reminding you to switch tanks, unfortunately they can’t put gas in for you!

Rick,
I don’t know the story behind the Lindbergh/Lancair deal, but I do know that Cirrus Design is a key corporate sponsor of the Landings for Lindbergh project (http://www.lindberghspirit.com/nyp2002/LandingsforLindbergh.htmclick here for details). Alan Klapmeier is the Honorary Lead Pilot, and Cirrus is providing a one-year lease of a new SR22 to the Lindbergh Foundation — which will award it to a lucky pilot. The deadline to http://www.lindberghspirit.com/nyp2002/LandingsforLindberghRegister.htmregister for Landings for Lindbergh is May 13.

Meanwhile, this would be a great time to re-read Lindbergh’s classic The Spirit of St. Louis, recently reissued by the http://www.mnhs.org/market/mhspress/0167.htmlMinnesota Historical Society Press.
