Talked with local service center avionics folks about this situation. Lots of conservatism about availability. However, 3 interesting points.

He called Avidyne and learned that he could not get on a waiting list yet to get me one, and Avidyne was not expecting to sell a huge number of them right away. Perhaps the large format is a big obstacle for squeezing into aftermarket installs.

He speculated that since the Cirrus is spec’d with an MFD, changing out the display might not require as much bureaucratic paperwork, perhaps simply a log entry. Notwithstanding figuring out the physical and electrical changes.

And he has customers who got “good” returns by selling their used avionics on E-Bay. Welcome to the eBiz world, eh?
