I fly for Angel Flight and am required to file and use a different call sign ( “NGF” ) for those flights. In my Garmin1000, how do I change how my ADS-B transponder displays so that my flight plan call sign matches what my transponder displays?
Hi Brad - in the “Time/Ref” window in the PFD you can scroll down to the Flight ID. When I first tried to make this change, the ID selector was locked. The shop needed to unlock it for me, then it allowed the edit.
I also fly for Angel Flight pretty frequently and joined the Mercy Medical Angels / AFMA Board about 6 months ago. I generally don’t use the NGF number but rather enter “Angel Fight” in the comments when filing the flight plan.

It first needs to be enabled to be edited by an installer. Once that’s done, you can modify it from the TIMER/REF display.
Thanks Bill.
Thanks Scott. So when you’re communicating with ATC, you use your tail number and make no mention of Angel Flight?
If you search the full forum (as you posted in Guest Discussion) there is an old thread called “Perspective - changing tail number”
Sorry for the delay! Yes, that is generally what I do. I have had a few circumstances where I needed some support (medical event in the air), and told them I was an Angel Flight with a sick passenger, but I don’t think that resulted in any prioritization beyond what I would have received in a non-Angel Flight medical event. At times I have request routing and indicated I was Angel Flight trying to shorten the leg for the passengers.
To be honest, (and with my board hat on) I think there is some value in broadcasting “Angel Flight” over the radio in the hopes that other pilots might be inspired to join the cause. It is a remarkably powerful experience to fly these folks. That is a worthwhile enough reason to use the NGF number (and I think I just convinced myself to start doing it!).
