Torben,

SUPERB! Simply magnificent.

You have me wondering – were you solo? If so, how did you shoot the landing in the rain at runway 07 (somewhere)? And was that P-static I heard at one point?

A beautiful video of a fantastic voyage - very skillfully put together. Well done!

Now… can we have the REST of the PIREP?

  • Mike.

Torben-

Hello, what a great video. It is good to see that everything is going good for you and Joe. If you every make it to St. Louis, MO. in a Cirrus or Citation look me up. I heard that you and Joe received your type rating!!!

That is SOOOOOO cool!

Cool post of the week award!

thank you. made my day!

Hey Torben,

Beautiful job!! One day I’ve GOT to do that flight. What an amazing experience it must be. Make sure you let me know when you or Joe are passing through the NYC area.

Jeff

Great video. Thanks!!!

Thanks! I needed that!

Looking for a co-pilot?

Very cool video. Ferry pilots are a different breed.

Torben,

That video really captures the imagination, and it is so well done! Thank you for posting it.[:)]

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your kind words!

Yes, I was solo in N266CD. The video was done one of two ways: by duct taping the camera to the dashboard with my jacket as a pad, or by flying the plane with my left hand and aiming the camera with my right.

This airplane is the 12th Cirrus I’ve brought to Europe. Without an auxilliary fuel tank, we go through Greenland and Iceland. With a 100 gallon aux tank in place of the back seats, we can go from St. John’s Newfoundland directly to Ireland. For aux tanks, I only use installations designed by Duluth mechanic and pilot Joe Thorne who runs Aircraft Delivery International.

We are also equipped with survival suits and life rafts.

The most dangerous part of this flight was probably the approach into Narsarsuaq Greenland. Runway 7 is nestled near the end of the fjord between a 3,000 cliff and a glacier flow. When the weather is lousy, as it was on this latest crossing, the Garmins are indispensible for insuring I’m over the water and not headed for rock.

Don’t Try This At Home,
Torben

Torben,

Like so many others, I’ve dreamed of doing this flight - maybe one day I will. I’ve met Joe - a wonderful guy. Have I met you? Forgive me if I have – my memory isn’t what it… what was I saying? Oh yes… I envy you this job!

Would love to hear more about it some day - perhaps over a cold beer?

  • Mike.

For the benefit of others watching this short video - I can’t get enought of it! - I think these are the scenes:

o Re Fueling in Canada
o Snowy approach into Goose bay down the Churchill river.
o Driving to the B&B in Goose Bay

o Cloud Break to become VFR on top on route to Narsarsuaq Greenland.
o Low Level approach below low cloud down the Fjord to Narsarsuaq
o Landing 07 Narsarsuaq
o Refueling
o Civilization again - Phew! - football, people, the Hotel and buildings in Reykjavik
o En Route Stornoway
o ATC in Stornoway
o IFR into Biggin Hill.
o Home with sister in London
o Closing Scenes - Torben with the Beatles on Abbey Road

FANTASTIC JOB
