I have about 50hrs in a G6 I recently purchased Coming from an older Archer to the Perspective+ avionics but really familiar with the Garmin stack as I had G5’s and all Garmin in the Archer. Anyway, I fueled up yesterday but was about 2 gallons shy of a full tank on the right wing. I started the aircraft but notated that I had about 54 gallons and not 56. During that short flight (115nm) I got a yellow then a red ‘Low Fuel Total’ warning. The fuel gauges looked correct to me indicating that the right tank had less fuel than the left tank on startup. Why is the CAS system not synced up with the fuel gauges? Confused and of course distracted with a Low Fuel warning…
Hello and welcome, David.
When you add fuel, are you entering the amount added in the MFD during the start up process? A full right or left tank should be 46 gallons. Once I thought I did, but forget to confirm the amount of fuel added, and I got that warning. Fuel gauges attempt to measure the quantity of fuel in the tank but depending on the slope of the ramp, it may not read accurately. The fuel totalizer measures the fuel that is used and subtracts it from the amount it was “told” was present during start up. Two separate ways to reflect the fuel onboard. Does this process sound familiar to you, or are you doing all that and still have an error?

And I suppose I should have specified that I am in an SR20 not a 22
Interesting but a better understanding the way you explained it. I could swear I ‘told’ it I fueled up then I deducted a couple of gallons so instead of 56 gallons I ‘told’ it that I had 54 gallons. Now you bring up a really good point, I cannot say for certain that I confirmed that before moving on so that is likely the culprit here. Of course it is my error! ![]()
