The published AD affects all SR20 and SR22T. It requires periodic inspection and replacement at 500 hour intervals. My aircraft, SR22T , is in annual inspection and I am being told there are no replacement clamps available until 2/2025.
Has anyone else encountered this supply chain problem? If yes, was there a workaround to enable you to fly the aircraft until new clamps are available?
I think you missed: “Applicability Includes, But Is Not Limited to, the Following Airplanes, Helicopters, and Engines When Turbocharged” over the table that lists Cirri. Yours might be affected though. I am not sure about EASA registered planes. NAs are not affected.
The AD uses the history of clamp failure and possibility for ensuing aircraft fire as the basis for the need for frequent inspection and replacement. The AD outlines in detail the average cost of compliance.
Chris,
This AD 2023-09-09 applies only to turbocharged engines. These V-band clamps hold together parts of the turbine assembly to the exhaust pipes.
There are generally two kinds of V-band clamps, spot welded and riveted. The spot welded versions are weaker and prone to cracking.
As @Jim_Barker indicated, True SR22T’s with a TSIO-550K engine mostly (not all) use riveted clamps which are not subject to the AD.
Only spot welded clamps are affected by the AD. These are commonly installed on Tornado Alley TN SR22’s which use the TATI STC TN conversion on the IO-550N engine. (These were originally marketed as “SR22T” even though they’re really a TN).
