The Garmin 430 and or ARNAV unit do not include a Traffic Proximity Alert System (TPAS). There are several low cost units available in the market that provide this function. Check pilot suppy shops such as http://www.marvgolden.com/default1.htm under new products for info on TPAS. Also http://archive.forpilots.com/archive/rec.aviation.products/0/msg311.htm

for the Monroy Surechek unit.

These units are rudimentary. They show a presence of traffic within specified miles but provide no bearing or altitude data. Pilots who own them state they are nonetheless useful.
