# Avidyne

Can anyone tell me why it is necessary to use the special “dataloader” with the avidyne, rather than a standard ZIP100 drive?

It isn’t.

But it’s worthwhile getting a USB-powered drive, and these days, the ZIP250 makes more sense - more available, and will be needed anyway for the approach plates application.

Does anyone have experience of using devices other than ZIP - e.g. USB memory sticks, etc…?

There are lots of previous discussions on this (try the SEARCH function), but the bottom line is the MFD contains drivers only for actual ZIP drives - memory sticks don’t work.
